When framing a shot the rule of thirds is always used.
·Extreme Wide Shot (EWS) - This shot will be very far out showing as much detail as possible of the location where the subject is. Quite often the subject will hardly be visible or not visible at all. EWS is often used as an establishing shot.
·Very Wide Shot (VWS) - This shot is used to give you a view of the subject but still retain most of the background. The focus is on the background rather than the subject.
·Wide Shot (WS) - A wide shot is a shot in with the subject takes up most of the room but we still see some background.
·Mid Shot (MS) - A mid shot is where the subjects’ upper body (from the waist upwards) takes up almost the entire frame.
·Medium Close Up (MCU) - An MCU shot is between an MS and a close up shot. It is taken from half way up the subjects’ upper body.
·Close Up (CU) - In a close up shot the subjects face fills almost the entire height of the frame.
·Extreme Close Up (ECU) - An ECU shot is a shot focused on one part of the subject, for example, the eyes. This is often used to show emotion.
